Wellbeing as Foundation, not Luxury
As we move towards summer, there’s often a swift uplift. Energy lifts. Diaries fill. Social plans increase. Work doesn’t slow down - if anything, it speeds up to meet deadlines before holidays begin.
And somewhere in that mix, wellbeing becomes something we intend to come back to. For me ( in the old days!), and for many of my clients, this is a lived reality.
But what if I told you that reframing this simple belief, could be the key to sustaining a full and fun summer ahead for you and your loved ones?
Wellbeing isn’t something we layer on top of life when we have time. It’s what allows life to work in the first place.
When we reframe wellbeing as the foundation of our world, everything changes. For me, and my clients, this has been a key game changer.
This means, thinking about your wellbeing and how it fares:
At home.
At work.
In your communities.
It literally sits underneath everything, and determines how much you can contribute and enjoy all the aspects of your no doubt busy life.
When we talk about wellbeing, we’re really talking about a set of core pillars that support how we function and relate:
Sleep: 7-9 hours per night
Rest: Getting comfortable with not doing, or at least with active rest
Nutrition: Fuelling our bodies with nutrient dense foods
Connection: Relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, nature, pets
Purpose: What energises us and brings passion to our life?
Movement: Are we moving enough and in the right ways for longevity and health?
These are not complicated ideas. But they are easy to drift away from.
When these pillars are in place, we tend to feel more steady. More able to respond rather than react. More connected to ourselves and to others.
When they’re not, everything takes more effort. Work becomes harder. Relationships feel strained. Even small decisions can feel disproportionately heavy.
That’s why this time of year matters.
Summer doesn’t just bring busyness - it also offers an opportunity to reset before that busyness fully takes hold.
I invite you to ask yourself:
Am I sleeping well, or just getting by?
Where am I mistaking collapse for real rest?
Am I fuelling myself in a way that actually supports my energy?
Who am I genuinely connecting with?
Do I feel a sense of direction or meaning in what I’m doing?
Am I moving my body in a way that supports, rather than depletes, me?
This isn’t about overhauling your life. It’s about returning to the basics, consistently. Understanding that as you grow and evolve, so do your needs. Are you staying current with yourself?
Small, steady shifts across these six areas can change how you experience your days far more than any quick fix ever could.
As the months ahead get fuller, these pillars become less of a “nice to have” and more of a requirement. Wellbeing is not what you do when everything else is done.
It’s what makes everything else possible.
